Well to say it was a shock when the physio said “it’s not your calf it’s your achilles” is an understatement, but when the orthopaedic surgeon says you will be away from normal activity for 4 – 6 months is pretty confronting.
So to cut the long story short I’m currently in a plaster cast to reduce the swelling before surgery next week. After the procedure it is another 1 – 2 weeks resting with an elevated foot, followed by 6 – 8 weeks in a Cam Walker Boot to ensure the foot stays in a fixed range of motion.
I’m learning to love crutches – I still can’t get over how much they slow you down.
